Generally, the festival of Diwali falls between mid-October to mid-November. Diwali is celebrated on Amavasya, the fifteenth day of Kartik month<\/strong>. On this day people decorate their houses with lamps and rangoli<\/strong>, wear new clothes and exchange sweets and gifts. Goddess Lakshmi is especially worshiped for prosperity and Lord Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, is also worshipped. Diwali is not only a festival of lights but also a festival of mutual love. According to the Hindu calendar<\/a><\/strong>, the festival of Diwali will be celebrated every year on Amavasya, the 15th day of the month of Kartik. This year, the festival of Diwali will be celebrated across the country on 12 November. Worship of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi also has special significance on this day. Amavasya Tithi on 12th November will start at 2:45 PM and end at 2:57 PM on 13th November.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diwali is celebrated to symbolize the victory of good over evil<\/strong>. On this day, Shri Ram returned to Ayodhya after defeating Ravana after 14 years of exile. The citizens of Ayodhya decorated their homes and the entire city with lamps. Since then Diwali started being celebrated by lighting lamps and bursting crackers. Another reason to celebrate Diwali is that it is considered the beginning of the New Year<\/strong> in many parts of India. It is said that in Satyayuga, Goddess Lakshmi appeared from the churning of the ocean and on this day she married Lord Vishnu. And people welcomed him by lighting lamps.
