Was expressed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It was also promised to facilitate equitable access to safe, effective and affordable vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics and other medical interventions, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, least-developed countries and small-island developing states.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button has-custom-width wp-block-button__width-100\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/khanglobalstudies.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\ud83d\ude80 Click here to get more information about other government exams\ud83d\udcd6 like UPSC, SSC, Defence, Police, Banking etc.<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A Health Approach<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is an integrated approach that focuses on optimizing the health of people, animals, and the environment.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>This is critical to preventing and responding to global health threats, particularly in areas such as food and water security, nutrition, control of zoonotic diseases, pollution management and combating antimicrobial resistance.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In May 2021, the <strong>One Health High-level Expert Panel<\/strong> (OHHLEP) was established to advise key organizations such as <strong>FAO, UNEP, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WHO<\/a> <\/strong>and<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.woah.org\/en\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WOAH<\/a><\/strong> on One Health matters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What are Antimicrobials?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Antimicrobials <strong>(<\/strong>including antibiotics, antivirals, antifungals, and antiparasitics<strong>)<\/strong> are drugs used to prevent and treat infections in humans, animals, and plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is Antimicrobial Resistance?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) occurs when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites change over time and no longer respond to medications, making infections harder to treat and increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, and death.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As a result of drug resistance, antibiotics and other antimicrobial drugs become ineffective and infections become difficult or impossible to treat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.khanglobalstudies.com\/current-affairs\/07-november-2023\/antimicrobial-resistance\">Antimicrobial Resistance<\/a><\/strong> (AMR) is a serious global concern due to the emergence of drug-resistant pathogens, making common infections difficult to treat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>&#8220;Superbugs&#8221;<\/strong> or multi- and pan-resistant bacteria are spreading rapidly, rendering existing antibiotics ineffective.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The lack of new, innovative antimicrobials in the clinical pipeline exacerbates this problem.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>impact of AMR<\/strong> is significant, affecting patient outcomes, health care costs, and even essential medical procedures such as surgeries and transplants.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Reason for increase in AMR<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Excessive use and misuse of Antimicrobial Drugs, inadequate access to clean water and sanitation, poor infection control, limited access to quality medicines, lack of awareness and inadequate implementation of regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AMR affects various infectious agents:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>This includes bacteria, tuberculosis and viruses, making treatment increasingly complex and expensive.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It also affects fungal infections, leading to treatment failure, longer hospital stays and increased healthcare costs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>According to <strong>a new Lancet report<\/strong> (which analyzed data from 204 countries), an estimated 4.95 million deaths in 2019 were linked to the bacteria AMR, of which 1.27 million were directly attributable to it.
