It typically occurs as part of a larger cell cycle. The other is meiosis, which divides into four haploid daughter cells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mitosis: <\/strong>The process cells use to make exact copies of themselves. There are two major steps in this phase, cytokinesis and karyokinesis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The interface further involves three steps:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>G0 phase (resting phase):<\/strong> The cell neither divides nor prepares itself for division.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>G1 phase (Gap 1):<\/strong> The cell is metabolically active and continues to grow during this phase.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>S phase (synthesis):<\/strong> DNA replication or synthesis occurs during this phase.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>G2 phase (Gap 2):<\/strong> Protein synthesis occurs in this phase.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Quiescent state (G0):<\/strong> Cells that do not undergo further division exit the G1 phase and enter the quiescent state.
