sculptures, inscriptions<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Groups of buildings<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Significant archaeological sites<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Natural heritage refers to:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Physical or biological formations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Habitats of threatened flora and fauna<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sites of scientific importance, conservation value, or natural beauty<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>India\u2019s Participation and Achievements<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India ratified the World Heritage Convention on November 14, 1977, paving the way for its sites to be included in the global heritage list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>As of 2025, India has a total of 43 World Heritage Sites, including:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>35 Cultural Sites (e.g., temples, forts, caves)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>7 Natural Sites (e.g., national parks, biodiversity hotspots)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 Mixed Site \u2013 Khangchendzonga National Park, which holds both cultural and natural significance<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>India ranks 6th globally in terms of the number of World Heritage Sites.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Historic and Recent Additions<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>India\u2019s first World Heritage Sites, listed in 1983, were:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Ajanta Caves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ellora Caves<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Agra Fort<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Taj Mahal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>All of these were listed by UNESCO in 1983.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul threats:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Manas Wildlife Sanctuary \u2013 <\/strong>listed from 1992 to 2011 due to illegal poaching and political unrest related to the Bodo movement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Monuments at Hampi \u2013<\/strong> listed from 1999 to 2006 due to threats from increased traffic and unauthorized construction.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>International and Tentative Listings<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>India also shares an international heritage site:<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cThe
