This day commemorates the creation of the state of Gujarat in 1960, when the Bombay State was reorganized on linguistic grounds, leading to the formation of two new states \u2014 Gujarat and Maharashtra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-content-justification-center is-layout-flex wp-container-core-buttons-is-layout-16018d1d wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link has-text-align-center wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/khanglobalstudies.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>\ud83d\ude80 Click here to get more information about other government exams\ud83d\udcd6 like UPSC and State PSC, SSC, Defence, Police, Banking etc.<\/strong><\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>History of Gujarat\u2019s Formation<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After India\u2019s independence, there was a growing demand to reorganize the country\u2019s states on the basis of language.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 1956, under the States Reorganisation Act, Indian states were restructured based on linguistic lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At that time, Bombay State comprised both Marathi and Gujarati-speaking communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, both communities had distinct linguistic and cultural identities, which gave rise to the Mahagujarat Movement \u2013 a movement led by the Gujarati-speaking people demanding a separate state of Gujarat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of this movement, on May 1, 1960, the Bombay State was divided into two new states \u2014 Gujarat and Maharashtra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since then, May 1st is celebrated as Gujarat Day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Geography of Gujarat<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gujarat is located on the western coast of India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It shares borders with Rajasthan (to the north), Madhya Pradesh (to the east), Maharashtra (to the south), and Arabian Sea and Pakistan (to the west).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The state covers an area of approximately 196,000 sq. km.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gujarat has the longest coastline in India, stretching about 1,600 km.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Major Cities<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ahmedabad \u2013<\/strong> The economic capital and industrial hub.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Gandhinagar \u2013<\/strong> The administrative capital of Gujarat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Other major cities include Vadodara, Rajkot, Surat, Bhavnagar, and Jamnagar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Population and Language<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gujarat\u2019s estimated population is around 67 million (2021 estimate).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The primary language spoken is Gujarati, which is also the official state language.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Other languages spoken include Hindi, Kutchi, Urdu, and Sindhi.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The state is home to communities following Hinduism, Islam, Jainism, and Zoroastrianism (Parsis).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Political Structure<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gujarat has a unicameral legislature with 182 assembly seats.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Governor is the constitutional head, while the Chief Minister is the executive head.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Gujarat has enjoyed political stability for several years and is considered one of India\u2019s leading developing states.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Economic Development<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gujarat is among the most industrialized and business-friendly states in India.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Major industries include chemicals, petrochemicals, textiles, diamond processing, pharmaceuticals, cement, automobile, and port trade.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Major ports such as Kandla, Mundra, and Pipavav are located in Gujarat.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Development projects like Dholera Smart City and GIFT City are milestones in Gujarat\u2019s economic growth.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Agriculture<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Major crops include cotton, groundnut, wheat, pearl millet, sorghum, rice, and oilseeds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gujarat is also a leader in dairy production;
