The Statue of Unity<\/a>, depicting Indian politician and independence activist Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, is currently the tallest statue in the world. Located on a river island opposite the Sardar Sarovar Dam in Kevadiya Colony, the statue was inaugurated by Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi on 31 October 2018<\/strong> \u2013 Mr Patel’s 143rd birth anniversary<\/strong>.

The statue is built on a hill which has been reshaped to create two more pedestals. The estimated cost of the entire project was $55 million<\/strong> and approximately $18 million was spent on the statue alone.
