Human activities have pushed many species to the brink of extinction. In such a scenario, National Endangered Species Day serves as a reminder of how important it is to act in time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

National Endangered Species Day began in the United States in 2006. It was started jointly by David Robinson and the Endangered Species Coalition. In the same year, the U.S. Senate officially recognized the day and designated that it would be observed every year on the third Friday of May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The purpose of this day is to raise public awareness about the importance of biodiversity and to promote the conservation of endangered species.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Are Endangered Species?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Endangered species are animals, birds, insects, or plants that are at high risk of extinction. Their populations have become so small that without proper protection and conservation efforts, they could disappear completely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) criteria, currently more than 40% of animal and plant species around the world are threatened with extinction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
