In Its payment systems "vision document" for 2012-15, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) made an observation that seems unimaginable in 2026: an average Indian was making only six non-cash transactions in a year.

The Kerala (Alteration of Name) Bill, 2026, which changes the name of the state to Keralam and makes the necessary amendments to the Constitution, including in the First Schedule, was passed by a voice vote. The Lok Sabha had passed the Bill on Tuesday.

The Rajya Sabha on Wednesday passed the National Cooperative Development Corporation (Amendment) Bill, 2026, which expands the role of the NCDC to giving loans and grants directly to cooperative societies.

The Centre has cleverly passed a law making it obligatory for the state government to 'guarantee' 125 days of work without making provisions for the resources needed to service this guarantee.

The two space agencies, ISRO and NASA, have never worked so closely together. Prices for Indian house-holds rose 4.45% year-on-year in July, little changed from the 4.38% increase seen in June, al-though inflation for war-impacted categories remained elevated. According to data released Wednesday by the Ministry of Statistics and Pro-gramme Implementation, food inflation rose in the country to 5.52% last month from 5.32% in June, while restaurants and cafes continued to charge diners higher prices.
