Rural workers are paying a heavy price for the Union Government's ill-conceived tinkering with India's employment guarantee law. Indeed, evidence is mounting of an unprecedented crash in employment generation under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) and its successor, the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) alias VB-G RAM G Act.
2.
Corporate investment as a share of GDP has declined sharply since demonetisation, falling below even the levels seen during the Global Financial Crisis; the decline began before the Covid shock. Investment depends on expected profitability, confidence in future returns, and the cost and availability of credit, with smaller firms facing higher financing constraints than larger firms.

The Department of Defence Production (DDP) has notified the sixth Positive Indigenisation List, comprising 405 strategically important defence items with an estimated business potential of ₹3,070 crore, in another push to reduce dependence on imports and promote domestic defence manufacturing.
4.
BRICS countries on Tuesday opposed what they described as "unilateral, punitive, discriminatory and protectionist" climate measures, including the European Union's Carbon Border Adjustment Me chanisms (CBAMS), while calling for a significant increase in international funding to help developing countries adapt to climate change.

Several States are recording a spike in H1N1 cases, among other influenza-like illnesses, viral fevers, and respiratory tract infections. Experts say there is no cause for alarm, but advise that children with asthma and other chronic conditions might require special intervention. The H1N1 virus, commonly known as swine flu, is a subtype of influenza A, and can cause respiratory illness, with symptoms in cluding fever or chills, cough, sore throat, a runny or blocked nose, headache, tiredness, and muscle or body aches. In some cases, patients may also experience vomiting and diarrhoea.

India Ratings & Research on Tuesday projected India's GDP growth to slow to 6.8% in the current fiscal, as against 7.6% in the previous year, citing risks from fuel and food inflation stemming from West Asia conflict, weak currency, and the likely impact of El Niño on agriculture. The projection at 6.8% is a tad higher than the 6.7% growth Ind-Ra had projected in May. The RBI earlier this month raised growth projections from 6.6% to 6.7% citing resilient domestic economy.
7.
India's crude oil import bill surged more than 41% year-on-year to $13.7 billion in July, as per provisional data released by the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC), as elevated global oil prices amid persistent uncertainty in West Asia pushed up the cost of shipments.

Helicase is an enzyme that unwinds the two strands of DNA so that the cell can copy the genetic information stored in them. DNA is normally a double helix, i.e. two long strands held together by bonds between bases on each strand, spiralling around each other. When a cell divides, it needs to make a copy of the DNA, which requires these strands to be separated.
