UNDERLINING THAT "the role of the President in protecting and defending the Constitution-in binding the Union as a cohesive unit - is crucial," a five-judge Constitution Bench Thursday said that no timeline can be fixed for the President and Governors to act on Bills passed by state legislatures although "inaction that is prolonged, unexplained and indefinite" by the Governor "will certainly invite limited judicial scrutiny".

A GENE editing tool developed by researchers from CSIR-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology (IGIB) has been transferred to the Serum Institute of India for developing treatments for genetic diseases. The tool-that uses the same principle as the Nobel Prize-winning CRISPR Cas9 gene editing technology-is completely indigenously developed, with Indian scientists holding all patents.
