1.
US President Donald Trump has said that the US and India are "pretty close" to a bilateral trade agreement which will be "a much different kind of deal" than the pacts that the US has with others.
2.
AS Poland's Prime Minister Donald Tusk arrived in New Delhi for a meeting Thursday with Prime Minister Narendra Modi-the first visit to India in 16 years by a Polish Prime Minister - the country's Finance Minister Andrzej Domanski said Wednesday that the Polish defence industry is looking for partners and can supply "really great, and good value equipment" to India.
3.
The United Nations (UN) celebrates its 81st birthday on Saturday, though with the Security Council (UNSC) dead-locked on who will lead the organisation as secretary-general in the New Year, celebrations are somewhat muted. The UN stands today at a precarious crossroads, frequently condemned as a relic of a bygone era in urgent need of reform, yet remaining undeniably central to the global agenda, while failing at its vital task, the maintenance of international peace and security.
4.
The US-India relationship is witnessing upheavals and drama like few others. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's visit to India could not have come at a more opportune time. While Elon Musk's comments and volatile tariff blows have captured head-lines and strained bilateral ties, defence and technology cooperation - driven by a shared imperative to counter China - has quietly anchored the India-US partnership.
5.
The World's seven big cats inhabit different continents and ecosystems, but their futures are increasingly interconnected. A puma in Brazil, a snow leopard in Asia and a tiger in central India's forests face the same challenge: Nature does not recognise administrative and political boundaries. Their survival will depend not only on protecting individual species and habitats, but also on sharing knowledge and building cooperation across borders.
6.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has agreed to resume US-mediated peace talks with Ukraine as soon as next month, the Kremlin said on Wednesday, after Putin met US envoy Steve Witkoff in Washington's latest push to stop Europe's bloodiest conflict since World War Two.
7.
Turkey, Qatar, Pakistan, and Indonesia signed an agreement on Wednesday to boost defence cooperation and strengthen defensive capabilities, the Turkish Defence Ministry said. In a statement, the ministry said the countries signed the "Badr Memorandum of Understanding" in Doha as a sign of their desire to further deepen cooperation and develop partnerships.
8.
The output of India's nine core industries grew 7.9% year-on-year in September, the quickest rise in the current series, supported by a favourable base effect and a largely broad-based improvement in performance.
9.
After Unanimously voting to increase the policy repo rate by 25 basis points (bps) to 5.50%, the Reserve Bank of India's (RBI) Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has signalled that rate cuts are off the table in the near-term as inflationary pressures mount.
The pace and extent of further tightening would depend on the evolving growth-inflation outlook, said the minutes of the MPC meeting held on October 6.
