Assam Cabinet approves rule that makes Muslim marriage registration compulsory

The Assam Cabinet headed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday approved a rule that makes the registration of Muslim marriages compulsory.

The Assam Muslim Mar-riage Registration (Compulsory) Rules, 2026, opera-tionalise the registration framework under the As-sam Compulsory Registration of Muslim Marriages and Divorces Act, 2024, which replaced a piece of legislation enacted in 1935.

VB-G RAM G: Karnataka creates 1.56 crore person-days of work

Karnataka has generated 1.56 crore person-days of employment under the Viksit Bharat Guarantee -for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) scheme, as the State faces a severe drought situation, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj (RDPR) Minister Eshwar Khandre told the Legislative Assembly on Thursday.

After his return to the White House in January 2025, he doubled down on his threat, saying that he would make the island American territory one way or the other. This incensed Denmark, a founding member of NATO, as well as America's other allies in Europe.

In the ongoing session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA), France has made a proposal to enhance the functioning of the UN, especially in dealing with collective security and the use of veto. France has been advocating that the use of veto in the UN Security Council (UNSC) be "regulated" when it comes to dealing with humanitarian crises such as in Sudan, Lebanon or in cases of genocide.

What are the alternatives to the SWIFT payment system?

The story so far:

The New Delhi Declaration that came out of the recent BRICS T Summit in the National Capital resolved to increase trade between member-countries and payments in national currencies. Days before the summit, a report by the news agency Reuters quoted sources as saying that at the event, India would push to link central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) for cross-border payments across BRICS nations, despite political and technical hurdles that could limit progress.

SC reserves orders on Centre's plea to finalise OBC creamy layer policy

The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved orders on a Union government plea seeking prospective operation of a March 11, 2026 judgment to reassess OBC non-creamy layer status as per a 1993 Office Memorandum by excluding parental salary income and agricultural income from the income/wealth test.
